Charging and battery care

Rolley and Rolley+ run on a lithium-ion battery with a smart battery management system (BMS) that protects it from overcharging and deep discharge. The cells hold UL 1642, UL 2271, UN 38.3 and IEC 62133 safety certifications.

Your first charge

Your scooter arrives with very little charge. Charge it fully before your first ride.

How to charge

  1. On Rolley+, check that the battery is in the battery bay and that the bay is locked: step on the battery bay cover until you hear a click.
  2. Plug the charger’s connector into the charging port. The connector is magnetic: make sure it is the right way round.
  3. Plug the charger into a grounded wall socket (110–240 V). The charger’s light turns red while it charges.
  4. When the light turns green, the battery is full and charging stops by itself. Unplug the charger from the wall, then from the scooter. Pull the connector, never the cable.

Never close the Rolley+ battery bay while there is no battery inside. The bay locks, and you will not be able to open it again or start the scooter.

Removing the Rolley+ battery

The Rolley+ battery sits under the footboard, behind an electronic lock. You unlock it with the Scooterson app.

  1. Start Rolley+ from the app, with your phone connected to the scooter over Bluetooth. The display turns on.
  2. On the dashboard in the app, scroll to the battery bay. It shows Locked. Tap it.
  3. The status changes to Unlocked. Lift the footboard to reveal the battery.
  4. Lift the battery from the front recess and unplug its connector.

To put it back, plug the connector in, set the battery in the bay, lower the footboard and step on its front part until it clicks. The app shows Locked again.

If you charge the battery outside the scooter, protect its connections from rain, moisture and dirt.

Charging safely

  • Charge indoors, in a dry room with a smoke detector, ideally during the day. Do not charge in a bedroom.
  • Use only the charger supplied with your scooter, and do not use it for anything else.
  • Keep the charger and the battery dry. Never touch them with wet hands, and do not charge during a thunderstorm.
  • Keep the charger ventilated and out of direct sun, and unplug it when you are not charging.
  • Keep the charger and the battery away from children.
  • Never open the charger or the battery.
  • Stop using a charger or a battery that is damaged, and contact support.

Making the battery last

  • Recharge after every ride. Lithium-ion batteries have no memory effect, so topping up is good for them.
  • Do not leave the battery empty: the BMS protects it, but keep an eye on the charge level.
  • Store the scooter indoors, somewhere dry, well ventilated and away from heat and direct sun.
  • For long storage, leave the battery between 30% and 70% and recharge it at least every two months.
  • After long storage, charge the battery fully and check the tire pressure before you ride.
